Battles with my Refrigerator

For the past 2+ months my fridge has been FREEZING EVERYTHING. And I mean Everything! Bags of Romaine- frozen and spoiled. Cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, cauliflower, green onions, mushrooms etc. You guys know I live off of produce and my fridge is loaded to the max with fresh veggies. I have had to throw away $100's of dollars worth of  produce- even trying to encorporate the once frozen and now thawing and slimy lettuce and veggies etc into my meals. Trust me- I hate wasting. If I can scrape it, cut around it etc, I will.

I have been fiddling with the temperature control, setting the dial lower and lower to see if it would help. I have been googling possible options until 3 am. I was afraid the compressor was broken etc. My apartment fridge is beyond ancient. Like 1980s ancient. I thought my freezer was screwing it up, I had too much in it etc.
I finally got fed up because my temp dial doesn't say anything, other that 1-8 and MAX. I googled myself to death and got conflicting answers as to my temperature dial. Most were 1-warmest 8-coldest. MAX obviously the coldest. Others explained that the numbers correspond to the degrees.

Well- I finally realized that 1 is the COLDEST and 8 is the WARMER setting. Why would they put MAX as the MAX HEAT? It is a refrigerator- it is supposed to refrigerate (ie COOL) things! Max should be COLDEST.

I need to figure it all out, because I have an over abundance of soggy, thawing, rotting veggies in my fridge now.

Yesterday I got the book 'LET THE GREAT WORLD SPIN' by Colum McCann and Friday I got as a gift 'The Shadow Effect".

I realize that this post isn't really health/food related, but I just wanted to type something. I think I am becoming depressed again- this is something that I have struggled with my whole life. The sun is OUT and it is beyond gorgeous outside. I mean post card weather gorgeous. Sunny, bright, warm...
I feel lost and stuck and low and sad. Anxious and overwhelmed.
I must change my thought pattern because this is not good.
Please keep me in your thoughts!

I hit up the gym for my daily 54min cardio and watched the Food Network's "I Do: Let's Eat" and the beginning of "Ultimate Recipe Showdown". I technically didn't 'watch' but stared at the screen at times. I love Ultimate Recipe Showdown! I don't have the Food Network at home, but if I did I would never leave my apartment! I should come later to the gym on Sunday's so I can watch the entire epidose!
I am currently munching on celery sticks (a whole Costco sized pack 2.5lbs)
Copious amounts of mushrooms etc dipped into mustard and making a FIBER PROTEIN PUDDING MESS!
I'm most likely going to end up microwaving some with baking soda.

Weekend via pictures (aka mustard, mustard, book, mustard!)

This post is so long overdue! Weekend shenanigans! AKA mustard, mustard, salsa, book and MUSTARD!
This is kind of lame, but nevertheless...
I took a picture of these SUGAR FREE CANDIES I've been eyeing since I discovered them at this Killer Dollar Store about a year ago.
They literally have EVERYTHING! Fuzzy peach, worms, sour rings, sour worms, chocolate almonds, gummies etc. SO TEMPTING

I LOVE COSTCO!

Costco Vine Tomatoes! They looked amazing!
DIET MANGO!!! OMG SO GOOD!

These are my daily 2 bags of RADISHES

This wasn't the 'full' effect (the main salad was missing the top layer)! Sorry about the seasoning crusted bowl. SO GOOD!

I finished reading "THE SECRET DAUGHTER" within 2 days. I LOVED IT! Highly recommend reading this! I am now reading 'Half of a Yellow Sun" and am getting "I SHALL NOT HATE: A GAZA DOCTOR'S JOURNEY' this weekend!

Ready for Spring already! It is COLD

I hit the gym for some cardio this morning (55min 536cal/5.76miles) and grabbed 3 scoops of Renew Life Fiber Smart which I mixed with sf pancake syrup and cinnamon at home *amazing!

I had major trepidation about meeting S, so I delayed until 1. I ended up having a decent time. Got lots of second hand books, including the BIGGEST find- Benazir Bhutto's memoir! I also got about 5 other books, an audio book which I can listen to at night, and a Moonlight CD (classical music that is supposed to be calming). I got The Constant Gardener, Adam Gopnik's Paris To The Moon, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, The Shack and Richard Prices CLOCKERS for fun. I usually read heavier books about Africa/Middle East, memoirs etc, but I got all of these plus the cd for $15! My friend also surprised me and bought Dr Suess's The Lorax!

I then went to Community Natural Foods to grab more Amazing Grass Chocolate Superfoods! We then headed to Planet Organic, where S got me more spices (Cape and Herb lemon pepper/lamb, and REDMOND REAL SALT Organic Natural Seasoning Salt (this is amazing-onion,garlic, celery, coriander etc). I also got QUE PASA organic Mexican Salsa!

Unfortunately, at Safeway they still didn't have good stock on the sweet Bell Peppers, and I had been hoping that they would have the AMAZING Spanish ones they had 2 weeks ago. The produce person was just putting out a shipment of smaller ones from Israel, so I grabbed about 5. I feel like I'm a culinary citizen of the world! I got Mexican Red Bell Peppers last week! I also got 5 Green Onions, tons of vine tomatoes, Crystal Light, 2 bags of Mann's broccoli slaw (they were SOLD out), mushrooms a Xenergy, El Molino Salsa, and TWO JOHNNY'S LEMON PEPPER SEASONING! AMAZING!

Last stop was the AWESOME Korean Market near my apartment called Arirang. I got a pack of white miso soup and a pack of 100 sheets of Yaki Nori full size seaweed.

Here is a picture of my fridge (BAD lighting from fridge and cell phone-sorry). The upper right hand side has a cellophane bag full of red peppers, Dole 908g bags of romaine, radishes, grape tomatoes, broccolislaw and zucchini!

Jan 1 2010

I woke up this morning (slept in) at 10am!! I stayed up late researching which gyms were open near me- only one and it was far away. I went to see it the Rec Room gym was open, but they forgot to unlock it. I then contemplated jogging outside, but upon realizing it was -24C outside, I changed my mind. I did some bicep curls (60 each arm) and 10 push ups and called it a day! ha ha. I then ate a pack of radishes dipped into Walden Farms Italian Dressing, and made 37g or Amazing Grass SuperFoods Chocolate! LOVE THIS! I got this yesterday at Planet Organic. 37g= 4.62 servings. I naturally added 2 packets SweetnLow, Davinci Sugar Free Peanut Butter syrup, Walden Farms Pancake syrup and cinnamon!

I then spent an hour researching the Internet for some supplements etc, and decided to go lie down at noon. I NEVER do this, but this was a challenge. I get antsy and my heart rate will actually speed up. I had some BIJA Holy Basil tea- which works miracles, and totally calmed me down. I normally use New Chapter's Holy Basil, but the tea was a nice adjunct. I promised myself that I will stay in bed until 1pm. I decided to continue with my reading of Edward Kennedy's Memoir 'True Compass' (fantastic) and finally got up to go to the bathroom. My sister and I had tentative plans to go see a movie, but I hadn't heard from her by 1:22pm- still sleeping. I turned the kettle on for more tea and then turned to the computer only to see the 'missed call' alert on my cell. I had literally JUST missed her call. She obviously was too tired! I talked to my dad a bit (so impersonal and formal with me- brought tears to my eyes), and am now drinking 2 more Holy Basil teas, listening to music on my computer, and just killing time!

I made some raw zucchini marinara and ate another bag of radishes:

I then made my GG Scandinavian Bran Crispbread of goodness along with more Chocolate Amazing Grass Super Food Chocolate batter:

I then made dinner using a bag of broccoli slaw, tuna, 4 cans of beans, 908g bag romaine, tomato, green onion, dressing, 12 nori sushi seaweed sheets:

I let stress get to me and ended up getting 2 more cans of green beans, 74g of broccoli slaw, 11.8g zucchini with lemon pepper, and some with sweetener and cinnamon, 3 more sushi sheets.... and then I ran down to my storage mail box and had another 37g chocolate superfood, went back up decided I want more, and made TWO more trips to get more! In total? 139GRAMS!! 518cals worth! I am texting some friends to see if they want to hang out tomorrow so I don't have to see S (anxious already) but they are either busy catching up on work, have plans etc. I feel like such a failure. Tomorrow my gym finally opens back up from Dec25 so that will be nice. I am a basket case!
